Measuring and analyzing cylinder running surfaces within seconds
NanoFocus AG, a specialist for high-precision optical 3D-surface measurement systems, goes into serial production with a new generation of the industry-approved cylinder inspection system, µsurf cylinder. As a specialized business solution for the automotive industry, µsurf cylinder has been successfully applied by numerous premium manufacturers for over five years. From wear analyses and defect detection to calculation of roughness parameters compliant with DIN EN ISO norms, the system contributes greatly to the production of more efficient and low-emission engines.
Since 2006, µsurf cylinder has been applied by renowned automotive manufacturers in the development of new engines as well as in quality assurance and process control. It has internationally become firmly established as the leading business solution for in-the-engine non-destructive inspection of combustion surfaces. Specifically designed for motor production, manufacturers can rely on a measurement and analysis system which performs reliable quantitative 3D surface analyses for daily use.
Know-how for energy-efficient technologies
Since its launch into the market, µsurf cylinder has been continuously optimized in close cooperation with key users from the automotive sector. The third generation of the system combines years of development competence with the expertise and daily user experience of NanoFocus customers in production quality control. Optimized data algorithms and improved user control allow for an even faster contact-free measurement and analysis of cylinder running surfaces. The new generation of the business solution is a reliable measuring system for process control during production. Its measurement results are easily reproducible and conform to international standards.
High-precision and robust measurement results
Determination of relevant tribological 3D characteristics is supported by a powerful and automatable software. In comparison to other measuring methods, like interferometry for instance, the patented NanoFocus confocal technology outshines by its robust measuring results – even in rough production environments. The measurement results exhibit a proven high-conformity to tactile methods. Therefore, transferring parameters of tactile methods according to historical drawing specifications are completely feasible. For further optimization and automation, the equipment of the system can be optionally enhanced by motor-driven components designed to suit the individual customer’s crankcase geometry.
“The past years have shown that our cylinder inspection system is valued by a large number of world-renowned engine and automobile manufacturers in production and development”, says Jürgen Valentin, Chief Technology Officer and Management Board Spokesman of NanoFocus AG. “As a reliable partner of the industry, we keep pace with the increasing technological demands in the field of engine construction. It is this approach that allows us to support our customers and the industry with an ideal measuring solution now and in the future.”
